ProFont is a compact and good-looking bitmapped font, that I use in jEdit and notepad. IMHO, it’s easier to read than the usual Courier/Courier New.
XVI32 is simple (the GUI, not the functionality) and effective, exactly as I want such a tool.
Reports the number of selected characters to the status bar. The ”Edit”, ”Word count…” dialog does the same, but this macro is great if you are switching buffers a lot. You have to assign a keyboard shortcut to make it work (bug in JEdit?).
