As you might know, I love taking pictures! My Canon PowerShot A620 has taken more pictures in the two years I had it, than I have taken with all other cameras together! I’ve never owned an SLR or digital SLR, but I have recently had the opportunity to hold and use a couple of Nikon D80 and Canon EOS 350D and I love the pictures I get! And now I must have one myself! :-P But which one do I choose? My choices so far:

Any opinions out there? I’ve read quite a few reviews, and hopefully I will try the Sony soon. Lenses are of course vital, and I’ve read very positive reviews about Nikon’s AF-S DX 18-200/3,5-5,6 G VR IF-ED, and it seems it is exactly what I need.

Nikon D80. I bought it and it’s great. D40 is small and cheaper brother, 350D is to small for me. Sony - you can try it, but everyone said to me - choose Canon or Nikon, nothing else.

One other point - look around you what have other peoples, as you can borrow something from them.

And yes, I had Canon before as well.

Thanks for your input, Martin. I have heard about the same things as you :-), and Nikon fits my hands better than Canon.

Go for the D80. It’s a Nikon. I’m using my fifth Nikon SLR (D70s) now and it’s very nice. The D80 is a incredible competent camera.

Best choise!
Me, I bought the D80 half a year ago, and it´s simply great! Concerning the lenses: my best one ist the 50mm/1.4. If you have the possibility to try this lens, you will get your own soon! ;)

Try buying the canon 20d on the used market.
